NOTE: The SIGNALS curriculum was developed and field-tested at a residential treatment center for adolescents. The students varied in age from 12 to 17 year olds. Additionally, Independent Living youth 18-20 years of age were taught the SIGNALS curriculum.
While the material was specifically tailored for rural Kentucky youth, urban youth centers have incorporated the curriculum with success. Various public and private High Schools in Kentucky and numerous other states have taught the curriculum. The intervention is used in Residential Treatment Settings / Outpatient Treatment Services and Court Ordered EIP Services. The reading level is 6th grade.
