The SIGNALS PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR / Training

                                

Sessions for certification as a SIGNALS Program Instructor. The training will provide clinical background information and tips for teaching the lesson plans. Every workshop concludes with a troubleshooting session for discussion on how to make SIGNALS most effective for your organization and setting. Schools, Treatment Centers, Drug Courts and Churches are all very different systems and this special attention to each specific need is beneficial for effective implementation.

The SIGNALS SCRIPTURE CONNECTION / Seminar

                   

This seminar speaks to the connection between the Holy Scriptures and the message contained within the Signals Program. When we consider our bodies as a “Temple” we have an obligation and moral duty to try to be good stewards of our physical, mental, and spiritual health. The Signals Scripture Connection is a companion curriculum for faith based communities. It is not meant to dictate how pastors or youth leaders connect scripture and substance abuse prevention but to give solid suggestions and examples for consideration.

The seminar is flexible and the timeframe can be as brief as 30 minutes or as long as three hours.

The SHIPS PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR / Training 

    

Sharing Hope In Prevention Skills or SHIPS is a Substance Refusal-Skills curriculum for adolescents (12-19 years of age). The forty (40) lesson plans are meant as follow-up sessions to the SIGNALS Program. Picking up where the Signals Program ends, SHIPS continues teaching and guiding youth through the stages of change with strategies for protecting their lives. Where Signals provides the rationale and motivation for wanting to develop refusal skills, SHIPS provides the detailed skills training and practice. The Instructor training participants will receive the curriculum and all materials as part of the workshop fee. NOTE: The curriculum will not be sold without purchasers attending the training.

The FOUR PIERS PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR / Training

 

Organizations will be licensed and allowed trademark recognition. The Institute Fee will provide all materials. The Four PIERS (Prevention, Intervention, Education and Recovery Services) is an integration of materials including the SIGNALS© curriculum and TASA© (Treating Adolescent Substance Abuse).  Four Piers can be conducted as an Outpatient or Intensive Outpatient Service. The program includes assessments for both the adolescent and parents. The program runs in cycles of 15 weeks with sessions for both parents and youth. Some sessions are integrated where both parents and children attend sessions together and then separate for strategy planning. The training will be conducted by the authors David Lane Stonecypher (SIGNALS) and Dr. George Ross (TASA). We suggest that the Institute be hosted at the organizations site.

The TRUST PROGRAM / Strategic Planning Workshop

Taking Responsibility for Understanding Sexuality Together or TRUST is a contextual-environmental approach to abstinence based sex education for teens in an adolescent residential treatment setting.This workshop is targeted for professional clinicians working in adolescent treatment centers with substance abuse / dual diagnosis and co-occurring disordered clients. The training includes materials for sexually reactive and sexual abuse issues. The strategies include suggestions for a vast array of topics pertinent to teen sexuality such as; biology and medical perspectives, drug and alcohol information, spiritual perspectives, and the impact of teen sexuality on co-occurring treatment issues.

EXPOSED LIES: The Truth about Alcohol and Tobacco Industry Advertisements / Seminar

This seminar includes examples of alcohol and tobacco advertisements and the demographic strategies used by those industries. The presentation describes how advertisements influence the pleasure centers of the brain and actually activate drug hunger in addicts and alcoholics. The presentation also describes the different methods and media used to “grow the client base”. The impact on youth is astounding “By the time a child reaches the age of 18 they will have seen 100,000 advertisements for alcohol and tobacco”. Can we witness anything one hundred thousand times and not be changed? After the presentation, you be the judge. Participants in the extended 3 hour workshop get a copy of the advertisement disk.

DUEL, DODGE, AND DECIEVE: The defense mechanisms used by at-risk youth to negate adults / Workshop or Presentation

This workshop or Presentation will be of particular interest for anyone working with high risk youth. The Adult-Youth disconnect is explained and strategies for initiating a meaningful relationship give useful techniques to reach teens that resist help.

Confronting THE PHARMACUETICAL AGE: What Every Parent Needs To Know / Presentation

This presentation includes all categories of legal and illegal drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. The slide show includes photographs of the substances that parents seldom recognize. Attention is paid to the physiology and health consequences of the drugs action on the human body. Emphasis is placed on the harm done to the adolescent brain which is still in development. Strategies for talking to your children will be presented.

JUVENILE SEXUAL OFFENDERS and Substance Abuse Issues / Workshop

For clinicians or professionals that provide treatment for Juvenile Sexual Offenders or the Victims of Sexual Abuse. Extensive case histories are presented on DVD. The sexual assault cycle is explained along with the trauma outcome process. Invitation to Responsibility and treatment guides are presented. The impact of substance abuse with regard to sexual offences is detailed. New material on female sexual offenders has recently been added. When the two day course is presented, participants receive additional materials and resource guides.

The impact and consequence of drinking while pregnant is discussed. Case histories and an explanation regarding the physiology help de-stigmatize of the problem and encouraged education for the public. A guide will be available for networking for resources.

NIDA INFO-FACTS: Basic Treatment Approaches for Chemical Dependency / Presentation

This presentation is an overview using NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) materials. A brief history is given on treatment approach and current methods. This explains the differences between Outpatient treatments and Residential or Therapeutic Communities as well as other approaches. An explanation is given on protocol and assessments.

These are 2 Day Events. You decide if you prefer Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday. You pick the topics or combination of subjects from the above list of seminars, presentations, workshops or training's.

Should you prefer, we can assist you in selecting locations for your retreat. For your convenience we have the full listings of Kentucky's State Park Lodges and other conference sites. Of course the retreats can be held anywhere you decide.

The Retreat Fee is $1,000. per weekend. The fee includes the speakers honorarium and workshop materials for up to 200 participants. This does not include the price for curriculums, however a 10% discount off the regular purchase price will be given to any participant.

Workshops are defined as (2) eight hour days. A ten minute speaker break should be scheduled every hour. Accommodations, Mileage and Food for the presenter are additional expense for the event organizer.

NOTE: Retreats outside of Kentucky requires additional arrangements and expense. Please allow for a (3-4) week advanced scheduling for travel logistics.
