David Lane Stonecypher, JSOCC
Mr. Stonecypher is the Founder of Preservation Awareness Development and the author of two substance abuse prevention, intervention and education curriculums for adolescents, Sharing Hope In Prevention Skills (SHIPS©) and Setting Important Goals Now Against Life-threatening Substances (SIGNALS©). In collaboration with Dr. George Ross, he is the co-author of The Four Piers© program, an intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program for adolescents and families. He is the developer of the TRUST program, an environmental-contextual approach to abstinence-based sex education for youth in residential treatment.
Mr. Stonecypher serves as the Director of Substance Abuse Prevention Services for The Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children & Youth. He is on faculty with the Kentucky School of Alcohol and Other Drug Studies hosted at Northern Kentucky University. Beginning his career in 1986 at Eastern State Psychiatric Hospital, in Lexington, Kentucky, Mr. Stonecypher has worked with hundreds of co-occurring and dually diagnosed adults and adolescents. He has worked for the Methodist Home since 1994. The Methodist Home has two campuses, one in Versailles and one in Owensboro. Mr. Stonecypher is credentialed from the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work as a Juvenile Sexual Offender Certified Counselor. An avid activist for restorative justice and substance abuse prevention and treatment services, Mr. Stonecypher recently retired as Chair of The Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy in Woodford County Kentucky. He held that position from 2003-2008. He currently serves as Chair of the Kentucky Faith Based Coalition on Substance Abuse / Mental Health / Intellectual Disabilities.
