FOCUS ON ACTIVISM:
Here are some pictures from Children's Day at the Capital in Frankfort Kentucky February 12 2009. The date also recognizes the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Birth. For the folks out of State or outside of America, Illinois most famous son was actually born in Kentucky!
Lane Stonecypher, Signals Author and Representative Susan Westrom, D-Fayette County.
Representative Westrom is a tireless and courageous advocate for the healthcare needs of all Kentuckians. As we talked she discussed the need for activism throughout the entire year, "We need to hear from the service providers and professionals in the field and OFTEN!"
As a former social worker, Susan knows the issues and doubtlessly I was "preaching to the choir". We can assist Representative Westrom and other great lawmakers by supplying them with pertinent information in the fight for physical and mental health issues of children and by being citizen activists "Everyday!"
Children's Day In the shadow of Lincoln
Children's Advocates from around the Commonwealth of Kentucky gathered on Lincoln's Birthday to bring awareness to Kentucky's Childcare Services and the budget crisis placing them in danger. Speeches and visits to legislators lasted all morning. The beautiful statue of Lincoln stands in the Capital Rotunda.
There's a song by Neil Young called "Rust Never Sleeps", neither does the Alcohol Industry!
Protesting a 6% hike in package liquor sales to supplement the budget crisis, distillers and distributors circled the Capital on Children's Day with beer trucks. The tobacco and alcohol sellers are a strong lobby and have big dollars to spend. Alcohol ADVERTISING is a billion dollar industry! For us to compete with that requires that healthcare providers for children be daily advocates.

Pastor Dan Paddock helped the SIGNALS program by converting the CD ROM version of the program into a DVD format and thereby making the program both pragmatic and more accessible to a broader population. This made SIGNALS viable to financially challenged organizations that typically may not have access to computers or LCD projectors but can afford TVs and DVD's. June 2008
